Nutrition

Nutrition and what you put into your body is an important topic, which both kids and adults should be aware of. For dinner or even lunch, it is important to take in the required foods and nutrients. The picture below is the recommended intake for mostly dinner and a rough guide for lunch. Fruit, vegetables, grains, protein, and dairy are the five major components of a healthy dinner. Below are benefits of each group as well as examples.

Fruit
  • reduces the risk of heart disease
  • low in fat sodium and protein
  • lacks cholesterol
  • berries, apples, grapes, mango

Vegetables
  • reduces risk for heart attack and stroke
  • potassium may lower blood pressure
  • eating lots of vegetables may protect against some kinds of cancers
  • carrots, broccoli, cucumbers, celery

Grains
  • two subgroups: whole grains and refined grains
  • whole grains should be half of the grains you consume
  • oatmeal, brown rice, whole-wheat flour

Protein
  • poultry and meat should be low-fat
  • beef, pork, chicken, turkey
  • peanuts, almonds, walnuts
  • cod, salmon, swordfish, tuna

  1. What a great blog you have here Emily! I think your topic is great and will hopefully inspire many other to live a healthy lifestyle. You know, I’m not the healthiest person around. Some of the food choices I make could be a lot better than they are. This is why I love this post, for it now shows me what choices to make and how I should eat. The Choose my Plate picture is something I am going to use from now on. I usually do not eat all the different components on this photo. It’s very interesting to me that fruit and vegetables really help your heart. I will be eating more of these now. Now I know that I should make half my grains whole and that the meat I eat should be low-fat. I found many new foods that will help me become a healthier person on your blog! Keep up the good work.

Your fruit salad animoto has so many different fruits; I love it! The layout of your blog is very simple and clean, and it is so cool that the back doesn't move when your scroll. You have so many cool tips and tricks, which I will definitely apply to my own eating habits. Your posts are informative and can help anybody, no matter how healthy they are.
